An assistant that stays on your Mac.

Nemis reads your mail and calendar, remembers the people you deal with, and answers questions about your week. All of it on your own machine, and reachable from your phone.

Version 0.2.2, 4.2 MB, universal for Apple silicon and Intel. macOS 14 or later, tested on macOS 26. Free while Nemis is in early access.

What it actually does

Not a chatbot with your inbox bolted on. It knows your week.

Reads your mail where it already is

Connects through Apple Mail, so whatever you have set up there, Gmail, Microsoft, or anything else, Nemis can read. No password for your mail account is ever handed over.

Remembers the people

Who you owe a reply, what you promised, when you last spoke. It builds that from your own mail and calendar rather than asking you to maintain a CRM nobody maintains.

Notices what is due

An invoice with a date on it, a follow-up you said you would chase, a meeting today with someone you owe something. It tells you before you go looking.

Connects to your tools

Any MCP server works, so Nemis can reach the software you already use. Tools that only read run freely. Tools that change something ask first.

On your Mac, and in your pocket

The Mac does the work. The phone is how you reach it when you are not sitting there.

Nemis for Mac

Lives in your menu bar. Reads your mail and calendar, keeps track of your people, answers your questions.

macOS 14 or later. Free in early access.

Nemis for iPhone

Scan a code once and ask your Mac anything, by voice or by typing, from wherever you are.

Ask for the beta

In testing, not on the App Store yet.

Getting started

About five minutes, most of it choosing a model.

  1. Install it and pick a model

Apple's on-device model needs nothing at all. A local model through Ollama needs a download. OpenAI, Anthropic or Google need your own API key, which stays in your keychain.

  2. Let it see your mail and calendar

macOS asks your permission for each, and you can withdraw either at any time. Nemis reads them on your machine and nowhere else.

  3. Pair your phone, if you want it

Your Mac shows a code, you scan it, and that is the whole setup. No account, no password, nothing typed.

Your data does not go anywhere

The claim, and exactly what backs it.

There is no Nemis server holding your mail, your contacts or your conversations, so there is nothing of yours for us to lose, sell, or be made to hand over. Everything sits encrypted on your Mac with the key in your keychain.

You choose which model answers. Apple's on-device model or a local one through Ollama means nothing leaves your machine at all. OpenAI, Anthropic or Google means your question goes to them under their terms, never through us. You can mark people and notes private, which excludes them before a request is built, or switch off personal context entirely.

Between your Mac and your phone

When you pair, the two devices agree an encryption key between themselves and every message after that is sealed with it. Nobody else holds that key, including us. There is no relay in the path because there is no relay. Speech is recognised on your iPhone and never uploaded.

It asks before it acts

Nemis can draft a reply, add an event, or run a tool you have connected. Anything that leaves your Mac or changes something shared is shown to you first and waits for your answer. There is no owner mode, no trusted channel, and no setting that turns that off.

Everything it does is written to an activity log on your Mac: every model call, every memory written, every action taken. It is encrypted like the rest, and Nemis will write you a readable copy whenever you ask.

Honest about the limits

Your Mac has to be awake
If it is asleep or off, the phone app cannot get an answer, and it says so rather than spinning. That is the cost of the brain being on your machine rather than ours.
It will sometimes be wrong
Nemis answers using a language model, and language models misread dates, miss messages in long threads, and state things confidently. Check the original before acting on a deadline, an invoice, or anything that matters.
Backups are yours
Nemis keeps no copy anywhere else, because a copy on our side would mean your data on a server. Keep Time Machine on.
Away from home takes a step to set up
On your own network the phone finds your Mac by itself. Reaching it from elsewhere needs a private link between your two devices, which Nemis walks you through once and which costs nothing. We run no relay to do it for you, which is the point.

What it costs

Nothing while Nemis is in early access. When it is priced, existing users will be told before anything changes, and a lapsed licence never locks or deletes your data: everything on your Mac stays readable and exportable whatever happens.

If you use a cloud model, you pay that provider directly with your own API key. Nemis takes no cut and never sees your usage.
